Joy inside – When money really does change…

Mother and daughter putting coins into piggy bank

I got into doing the work I do with helping women get their financial st*ff together using pleasure, because that’s what I did.

After working in tech and getting “laid off,” I spent everything I had trying to keep my son and I afloat. Eventually I ran out of money and options and landed on welfare. I had no idea that welfare was even an option for someone like me: white, middle class, educated and hard working. (Yeah, the stereotypes about who has money problems really bit me in the butt.)

So in trying to figure out all this stuff about money I ended up with a business about money because of my commitment to solve this for myself, my family and my community.

And some of you know that I’ve grown my work a ton over time by doing massive internal work, mindset work, money tracking work and working my butt off to figure it out. But there was still something missing – until recently. And now I finally feel like I got the results of the work I’ve been doing both politically and personally – deeeeeeeeep in my bones.

I’ve been helping a dear friend and colleague, who’s been really struggling with her business. She’s finally stepping into joining a leadership program lead by a woman of color (she’s black and it matters that black women are represented in leadership.) And she needed to pay the last bit off before she could jump in. And of course the deadline was looming large with less than a week away.

Does this sound familiar to any of you?

I know that I’ve been in this EXACT position in my life.

When I got her message I was able to – excitedly – call up the org and give them her final payment. In full.

And that felt good.

But it felt even better to then call my friend up and tell her that she was all set.

She burst into tears and had to take a break from work to laugh and cry and really drop in and receive the gift.

She was excited and shocked, in part because she had expected to have to hustle to find several people to get ‘er done and now she can relax. There was relief and joy and tears and… so much emotion and gratitude. And of course I cried too. And then we prayed together for abundance for all of us.

I want to share this with you for two reasons:

  1. I want you to know that you can have it. You can have unexpected help, once you open to asking for it. You can have it.
  2. You don’t have to wait until you “deserve it.” The truth is we often only ‘deserve’ things in retrospect.  You are already worthy of all that you desire. It’s too late and there are no take backs. You are worthy.  All you really have to do is to decide that you want your desires and ask for them. And then accept them as they show up.

I was able to give that gift, because she asked. Because she allowed me to help her and give to her and love her.

I’ve been given to in this exact same way in my life. I know how overwhelming it can be to receive, especially after having to work and hustle so much. I’m thrilled to be in a position to really give to my dear friend.

I know how unworthy I have felt of this same kind of love and generosity. And it was only in my commitment to be worthy of the gift that I felt it – after the fact.

But the thing is, this is a huge gift – to me – to be in a position to do this for her. To be able to reflect on the journey that brought me to such joy and groundedness. I just wanted to share my joy with all of you and remind those of your struggling that things can change.

Would it be an amazing world if you just asked for what you want and got it?

The deal is that I had to come all this way to be able to give on a big level. To give hundreds of dollars instead of feeling like I could give my time. It’s only been a few years since I stopped taking scholarships, and paying on the low income fees scale at events and things.

It feels so good to make money to pay my staff and have all my bills paid and especially be able to give back to community.  This is one of the biggest joys in my life these days – to be able to give to community when they’re struggling. It fills me up and creates impact. And that’s what we all say that we want in the world.

I really believe that we can heal our relationship money – separate from capitalism and greed.  And reclaim our power and worthiness in the process.

If you’re struggling with money, I encourage you to ask and to open to receiving.

I also encourage you to stay tuned to these emails – in the next couple of weeks I’m going to be re-opening the most popular class I teach on tracking your money. And I’d love to have you join us!

Here’s to more asking and more receiving!

Financial Bliss Blessings,

Briana
